The study of Tai Chi is not to be taken lightly.  And although Cloudy Day Tai Chi is a short form, it nontheless requires the same conditioning as that of set of larger number of postures.

I therefore suggest that if you are planning to attend any of our workshops, to prepare yourself through walking.  Tai Chi is practiced standing and constantly moving. Walking at a slow pace a minimun of 30 minutes per day during a week or two prior to the workshop will help to prepare your legs for Tai Chi practice.

I will also advice that you practice standing still for at least 10 minutes every day. You can practice 5 minutes on one leg and then 5 on the other by shifting the weight form one leg to the other. And then 10 minutes on both legs. If 10 minutes is too long, then shift to the other leg. As time goes on, you'll find that your legs will become stronger and standing still will seem much easier.

It is very important that while standing still, the knees be slightly bent or unlocked. Of course, as always, you should listen to your body.

It is also important to come to the workshop with an 'empty cup'. An "empty cup", is a metaphor used to illustrate the condition of the mind prior to study;empty. Be willing to look silly, uncoordinated, and at times even feel foolish. Come prepared to leave the ego outside the door.
Feel free to contact me should you have any questions regarding preparation for the workshop. Remember, each participant receives a DVD showing the form from the front and back.
Professor Cheng Said,
“...Carry your head atop your body with the same sensation as if your were suspended by your braided hair from the rafters above. If your head bobs and swings you may practice taichi fruitlessly for thirty years.”
